What is jiaogulan?
Jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum) is a vine from the cucumber family, native to southern China. It owes its nickname "herb of immortality" to Guizhou province, where its daily consumption as an infusion was associated with the remarkable longevity of its inhabitants. It shares several compounds, the gypenosides, with ginseng, which also earns it the nickname "southern ginseng".
