What is ashwagandha?
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), sometimes called "Indian ginseng", is a plant from the nightshade family whose root is used. A pillar of Ayurveda for more than 3,000 years, it is now the most popular adaptogen in the world. Its Sanskrit name means "horse's odour", a nod to the powerful aroma of the fresh root and the vigour it is said to convey.
What tradition says
In Ayurvedic tradition, ashwagandha belongs to the rasayanas, the longevity plants. It is traditionally used to:
- help the body cope with everyday stress and tension;
- promote relaxation and quality sleep;
- support physical recovery and vitality.
It is the evening adaptogen par excellence: where rhodiola stimulates, ashwagandha soothes.
Dosage and use
Our hydro-alcoholic extract is taken as drops diluted in a glass of water, 1 to 2 times a day, preferably at the end of the day or in the evening. Like all adaptogens, it works best as a course of at least 3 weeks, renewable. See the label for the precise dosage.
Our organic ashwagandha, grown in Brittany
This is the plant that gave birth to Adaptitude: after comparing our garden-grown root with commercial powders, we developed an organic greenhouse cultivation with partner growers near Quimper. Fresh root, extraction in our Finistère laboratory, ultra-short supply chain: freshness makes all the difference.
Precautions
Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or children without medical advice. If you are on medication, ask your doctor. Food supplement: not a substitute for a varied diet and a healthy lifestyle.
