Red ginseng

The historic tonic: the most famous root in traditional Chinese medicine, associated with vitality.

Red ginseng

What is red ginseng?

Ginseng (Panax ginseng) has been used for more than 2,000 years in traditional Chinese medicine, where it is considered the tonic par excellence. "Red ginseng" is not another species: it is the same root, steamed then dried, a traditional Korean process that gives it its colour and concentrates its compounds, the ginsenosides.

What tradition says

  • Support for vitality and general tone, especially during periods of fatigue;
  • support for concentration and intellectual performance;
  • a "warming" plant in Chinese medicine, associated with vital energy, qi.

Dosage and use

The extract is taken as drops diluted in a glass of water, preferably in the morning, as a course of at least 3 weeks. Ginseng being a tonic, avoid taking it in the evening. See the label for the precise dosage.

Ginseng or eleuthero?

Eleuthero, or "Siberian ginseng", is a gentler botanical cousin, often chosen for a first course. Panax ginseng, more powerful, suits periods that call for a real boost. Our eleuthero guide details the comparison.

Precautions

Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, or in case of high blood pressure without medical advice. Food supplement: not a substitute for a varied diet and a healthy lifestyle.
